Behind the Chair with Mikaela

Something you learn quickly in the hair industry: everyone has a story to tell. Aside from keeping your hair 💯 we get to learn more about our clients at every appointment.

Through the Rundown we want you to get to know us. In this series we give you a glimpse of what life is like ‘Behind the Chair.’

Next up, Mikaela! Mikaela was just promoted to Senior Stylist so make sure to give her a congratulations at your next appointment!

Get To Know Me:

I was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 2.

My sister and I are 16 years apart (I’m the oldest).

I’ve been sober for 5 years.

Describe your style in three words.

Black, plain, comfy.

What made you want to become a hairstylist?

When I was young I always let my friends color and cut my hair. I like being creative and customizing everything for that one person! It’s such a good feeling when they light up from a new color or cut.

How do you unwind on days off?
You can usually find me by the pool with my bestie or inside with some good snacks and a movie.

Advice for someone pursuing a cosmetology career?

School is just one small part of the industry so stick it out! I suggest working in a salon before and during school so you can absorb as much information as you can!

If you weren’t a hairstylist, what would you be?

Before I started doing hair I worked with infants and it was one of my favorite jobs, so I would definitely go back to working with babies!

What’s on your bucket list?

Go to the Galápagos Islands and Hawaii.
