The Easiest Homemade Bread Recipe

Is there anything better than warm, crusty bread with butter? Nope.

This is an incredibly easy overnight bread recipe. While it takes some pre-planning because of the overnight rise, the prep is simple and requires only 3 ingredients. The best part- no sugar and no preservatives! Just tasty, warm bread.

Here’s what you need:

  • 3 1/2 cups regular flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon dry yeast

  • 2 cups warm water

Mix all of the dry ingredients.

Mix until just combined then add 2 cups warm/hot water straight from the tap. Add the water until you get a sticky consistency like shown above.

Cover with plastic wrap and let sit overnight.

Leave the dough to sit on the counter overnight and rise until it looks like this. It should be very jiggly.

Preheat your oven to 450. Flour your baking paper and form the bread loaves.

You’ll be able to make 2 baguettes with this recipe. Flour your parchment paper and continuously fold dough into itself until the surface is covered in flour. Cut dough in half and form the loaves, let them rise 30 more minutes on the counter before baking. While rising/preheating, put a cake pan filled with water on the bottom shelf of the oven to create steam.

Bake for 35 minutes then remove the pan with water, turn the oven temperature down to 200 and leave the bread in for five more minutes.

Baking Tips:

  • Don’t skip the preheating step with a water filled cake pan. The steam that’s created makes for a pillowy dough. Removing the steam pan at the end forms the crunchy crust.

  • Be generous with your flour. This dough is sticky and will happily absorb the extra. Plus it gives it more of a “bakery” look.

  • If you find the bread isn’t rising: mix the yeast into warm water before adding to the four/salt mixture.

    ENJOY!
